What we do with what you send us
Written under the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018. Plain version: we use it to answer you, we keep it no longer than we need to, and we never sell or share it.
Who is responsible
Martin Engelbrecht, trading as Jersey Keys, St Helier, Jersey, is the data controller for this website.
You can reach us at martin@jerseykeys.co.uk or +44 7700 704769 about anything on this page.
What we collect, and why
We only collect what you type into one of the three forms on this site. We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not build profiles.
- Viewing enquiry form — your name, phone, email, the property you're interested in, your residential status, employment status, household, pets, preferred move-in date and preferred viewing times. We use this to work out whether one of our apartments can actually be let to you, and to arrange a viewing.
- Priority list form — your name, email, optional phone, the size of apartment you want, whether you need parking, whether you have pets and what kind, and your earliest move-in month. We use this only to contact you when a matching apartment is about to become available.
- Contact form — your name, email and message. We use this to reply to you.
Each form also carries a hidden anti-spam field. If it is filled in, the submission is discarded and nothing is stored.
Our lawful basis
Under Article 8 of the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018 we rely on:
- Steps taken at your request before entering into a contract — for the viewing enquiry form, where you are asking us to consider you as a tenant.
- Consent — for the priority list. You choose to join it, and you can ask to come off at any time.
- Our legitimate interests — for the contact form, our interest being simply to answer the message you sent us. We have weighed this against your interests and consider replying to your own enquiry to be what you would expect.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that do not lead to a tenancy: up to 12 months, then deleted.
- Priority list entries: up to 12 months, or until you ask to come off — whichever is sooner.
- Where a tenancy goes ahead, your information moves into the tenancy file and is kept for as long as the law requires us to keep letting and tax records, and no longer.
Who sees it
Martin, and nobody else. We do not sell your information, we do not share it for marketing, and we do not pass it to letting agents.
Two suppliers process it on our behalf purely to make the site work: our website host, which receives the form submission and stores it so we can read it, and our email provider. They act on our instructions only.
Your rights
Under the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018 you can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict what we do with it, or object to us using it. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
To ask for any of these — including deletion — email martin@jerseykeys.co.uk and say what you want done. We will respond within one month. There is no charge.
If you are not happy
Tell us first and we will try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner, at jerseyoic.org.
